2009 NWADB Tournament
Saturday, 28 March 2009 17:05

Would you believe it if I told you that UACD’s men and women
basketball team just arrived home from Seattle, Washington playing in
the 2009 NWADB tournament?

“What?” You would say.

“Already?! But didn’t they just play in Montana recently?”

Yep that’s true! We just got back from a fabulous weekend in the
Garden of Eden… Oh wait… I meant Seattle, but it sure was GREEN,
GREEN and GREEN. Just in time for St. Patricks Day!

I am happy to inform you all that the Utah women’s team beat the Utah
Eagles to secure their 7th straight regional title! Yes 7! With the help
of a great coach, Brad Crowther, the Utah women’s team was able to
keep the winning streak alive. As some of you may know, there has been
a
new addition to the team, Abby Moose, from Pennsylvania. Abby, a great
guard comes to our team with great basketball experience and the team is
excited to have her and her skills on the team. As I talked to some of
the players from both Utah women’s teams, I found that many enjoyed
the competition and the opportunity to get to know each other. The Utah
women’s team looks forward to playing at Nationals in Anaheim, CA in
April. The Utah Eagles team beat the Seattle team twice to play in the
championship game. Coach Craig Radford of the Utah Eagles said, "It was
a good experience for the girls to learn teamwork and endurance. They
played their hearts out!" The Utah Eagles are going to the Nationals as
well.

Having fought hard in each and every game the Utah men’s team took 2nd
against the combined American River Deaf Club, ARDC and Bay Area Club of
the Deaf, BACD teams. Despite playing against a team of younger players
the men did a great job of fighting to the end and not giving up! If you
asked anyone who watched that game, you would find out the Utah team had
great sportsmanship, more experience thus more knowledge and worked hard
to the end. Several players took hard hits but that didn’t faze them
and only encouraged them work harder. The men’s team had a great Utah
fan club which consisted of both Utah women’s teams and boy did they
cheer hard! We are proud of the men’s team and look forward to
watching them at Nationals as well.

All three teams would like to thank everyone for their support and
willingness to help out. Keeping a team together and scheduling
practices is hard work and the teams are grateful for wonderful the
coaches for their time, Brad Crowther (Utah men’s and women’s team)
and Craig Radford (Utah Eagles). If it wasn’t for the coaches, many
feel they would not get as far as they have. Cheers to both coaches!

Thank you again for all of your support and love!
